Notes:

No. 1 - Morning Chores (Утренние хлопоты), opening measures from the 1947 Muzgiz edition.

Relatively simple, inoffensive, short, tuneful pieces. The second of two books of Children's Scenes, the first dating from 1939 and assigned opus number 32. This set could be seen as the more advanced of the two, though some pieces are certainly still appropriate for study by younger performers. The music is almost reminiscent of Kabalevsky - though the music of this second set seems better developed, and slightly more forward looking, than the first set. Given that the composer passed away in 1946, this composition would rank among his last surviving works - though no definitive opus number has been found to be assigned to the set yet.

Notable Performances:

There are references to some of the Children's Scenes having been performed in the United States, but it is not possible to know if the first or second set is being referenced. A small handful of movements exist on YouTube, recorded by ametuer pianists for their personal accounts. No professional recordings are known to exist.
