Date Information

Excerpt from the autograph manuscript, opening of the first movement. Obtained with cooperation of the State Archives in St. Petersburg: https://spbarchives.ru/

The autograph manuscript specifies 1945.

Published Editions:

No professionally published editions exist (especially given that the score is incomplete). The score is currently being typeset by the site owner Chris Mansi, with as minimal editing as possible, to as closely match the autograph as is feasible. It will be uploaded for access as soon as it has been fully typeset.

Notes:

The autograph score cuts off abruptly four pages in, midway through the page. Given that the date listed is 1945, it would not be unreasonable to assume that the composition was not completed due to his death in 1946. The work is specified as "Sonata No. 1," and the composition does begin with an indicator of the work's first movement, implying that a multi-movement work was projected. Whether or not any additional sketches, or a completed version reside elsewhere is unknown, there are no further listings for this work that have been located. The autograph score was obtained with the cooperation of the State Archives in St. Petersburg (https://spbarchives.ru), for more information on requesting a copy of the autograph score for personal use and study, please see the Autograph Scores section of the website.
